GIZ ICONE Hosts Workshop on Analysing the Tourism Environment and Generating Strategic Options

 

On Monday, November 18, 2024, GIZ ICONE, in collaboration with local partners, hosted a workshop titled “Analyzing the Environment, the Tourism Industry, and the Competition to Generate Strategic Options.” The half-day workshop, held at The Elephant Hotel in Siem Reap City, aimed to equip local tour operators with the knowledge and tools to better understand the current tourism landscape and develop effective strategies for their businesses.

The workshop covered a range of topics, including:

  • PEST analysis: Expanding on the analysis conducted during a previous workshop on August 26, 2024, participants delved deeper into the political, economic, social, and technological factors influencing the tourism industry.
  • Industry and competitor analysis: The session focused on the current state of the tourism industry, identifying key driving forces and defining the competitive landscape for benchmarking purposes.
  • Cambodia’s Tourism Insights Study 2024: Participants gained valuable insights from the latest study on Cambodia’s tourism sector, helping them understand future trends and opportunities.
  • Social media marketing: Lao from Cambodia Overland Travel shared practical tips and strategies for effective social media marketing, highlighting the importance of engaging content and visual storytelling.

After the morning session, participants had the opportunity to join an optional afternoon activity, which included a visit to Phum Khmer Lodge. This provided a chance to experience firsthand the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of the region.

In addition to the formal workshop, participants had the chance to meet with Mr. HAKLAO CHHEUY (Laoclassics), a social media influencer and tour guide. Mr. Lao conducted a workshop on social media tips and photography techniques, providing valuable insights for promoting tour businesses.
