Building Bridges: Enhancing Access to Finance and Investment 

On October 11th, 2024, Siem Reap became the main location of investment conversations at the “Building Bridges: Enhancing Access to Finance and Investment” symposium, hosted by GIZ ICONE. The event brought together local businesses, investors, and financial experts to mark a significant milestone in fostering investment readiness and accelerating growth in northwestern Cambodia.

Dr. Stefan Hanselmann, director of GIZ ICONE, highlighted that “access to finance is not just about money” but a crucial bridge for entrepreneurs to achieve their business dreams. The day began with a deep dive into Cambodia’s growing investment landscape, offering fresh perspectives on how businesses can position themselves to attract vital funding, especially clarifying the misconception of investment and free money. The session also provided a clear understanding of the current trends and emerging opportunities in the local market, sparking excitement among attendees eager to grow their ventures.

A key focus was on venture building, where experts shared practical, hands-on strategies designed to help entrepreneurs overcome common barriers to scaling their businesses. From strengthening operational models to preparing for investment rounds, participants walked away with actionable insights that could make a real impact on their journey toward financial sustainability.

The first panel discussion of the day broke down what it means to be truly investment-ready. Panellists dove into the core requirements for businesses seeking external funding, from developing robust business plans especially to demonstrating long-term profitability. To round out the day, an in-depth presentation offered a clear roadmap for securing finance from a bank, shedding light on the specific documentation and processes required.
